Minnesota FSA director says Prevent Plant acreage higher than anticipated

Minnesota’s Farm Service Agency director says the state has more prevent plant acres than originally thought.

Whitney Place tells Brownfield farmers have taken Prevented Planting on 8,000 corn acres and 2,000 soybean acres following a wet spring.

“In Minnesota we have a lot more acres than we initially expected due to those rains.”

She says farmers need to finish acreage reporting before the FSA deadline of July 17th.

“Now we’re starting to see that drought, and so again it’s important to report those acres in case any sort of disaster program comes through.
