An Illinois farmer is working to secure a future for corn in the sustainable aviation fuels market.
“It’s a market that they want 3 billion gallons of by 2030 and 50 billion gallons by 2050. So we want to make sure that corn is a part of that.”
Randy DeSutter of Woodhull tells Brownfield educating lawmakers and updating the models used to measure sustainability are crucial first steps.
“We produce corn a lot more efficiently than we used to, and we want to make sure it’s updated with this GREET model.”
He says improving sustainability on the farm including nitrogen efficiency and conservation practices will also help.
