Compensating for short corn silage

A dairy producer in central Missouri says it hasn’t been easy to get forage to feed the cows in the drought.

Alfred Brandt from Linn tells Brownfield corn silage is short and he’s been buying alfalfa hay in southern Missouri or other states, but it’s expensive.

“Hay prices are pretty high this time of the year and we’re concerned about that. In the spring, I usually get 400 bales of triticale and this year, I got 270 bales.
