Arkansas crops reaching new growth stages

Arkansas crops are hitting growth milestones this week as soybeans begin to color and cotton bolls open up.

The USDA reports as of Sunday 35% of the corn crop has reached maturity, 3% of cotton bolls are opening, the second cutting of hay is 75% complete, 100% of peanuts are pegging, 10% of the rice crop is mature and 10% of soybeans are coloring. Each are in line or ahead of the five-year average pace for the first week in August.
