PRATT, Kan. (KAKE) — Lee Wilson secretly planted 80 acres of sunflowers to surprise his wife, Renee for their 50th Anniversary. KAKE TV reports the Kansas farmer’s land, which is about four miles east of Pratt, and is now covered with more than 1.2 million sunflowers. That equals 15,000 sunflowers per acre. The couple’s wedding anniversary isn’t until Aug. 10, but Wilson unveiled his secret crop early, once the sunflowers started to bloom because sunflower season doesn’t last very long. The flowers will only stay picture perfect for about two weeks and people have been stopping along Highway 54 to take photos in the field according to Wilson. He said he will let someone else do something similar next year.
